ABOUT US:

We are a group of residents concerned about industrial solar coming into our communities. We are fighting against these companies in order to preserve our prime farmland, landscape, property values, water, and wildlife. We are NOT against solar. We are just against “industrial solar” on prime farmland. We need YOUR help to educate the community, and fight these companies. We want to help save farmland for your future.

#FARMSFORFOOD

BELOW ARE THIRTEEN REASONS WHY

INDUSTRIAL SOLAR

WOULD BE

DAMAGING

TO OUR COUNTY:

_______________________________________________

1. As prime farmland is covered by solar panels our food supply will decrease:

Thousands of acres will be taken out of food/feed production, and your grocery bill will continue to increase. Many experts believe that farms converted to solar plants will never be returned to productive

farmland. Below are links to support this reason:

2. Property Values Will Decrease:

Studies show that home values decrease by 15-30% within one mile of a industrial solar plant.

See Below Links:

3. Solar Projects Are Heavily Subsidized By Your Tax Dollars:

The solar industry would collapse without the massive 26% tax credit from the federal government.

See the links below:

4. Utility Costs Will Increase:

Additional infrastructure will have to be built to handle the solar electricity produced, and that cost will be passed to you the consumer in the form of higher electricity bills.

See the links below:

5. Solar Panels Are Toxic & Could Contaminate

Our Drinking Water & Soil:

Panels may contain lead, GenX (PFAS), cadmium, selenium, and/or copper indium. These toxins are known to leach out when panels are storm damaged, and suffer from UV degradation. A great deal of the proposed land for these projects are located above essential aquifers

for our drinking water.

6. Storm Water Runoff Issues:

Solar Panels will create water runoff at a higher volume & velocity, causing erosion. Low-lying areas will be forced to hold more water.

Creeks and streams will swell more creating additional flooding issues.

See links below for more information:

7. Negative Economic Impact:

Local Agribusinesses in particular will suffer as there will be less demand, fertilizer, feed, farm equipment, equipment maintenance, and other farm supplies. Agritourism will also see a decline.

See links below for more info:

8. Farmers That Want To Continue Farming

Will Suffer:

Many farmers will lose their farm leases to out-of-state solar LLC’s.

As the available “farmland pie” shrinks, the demand will strengthen resulting in a significant increase in cash-lease prices.

See Links Below:

9. Devastation To Wildlife & Local

Ecosystem:

Tens of thousands of Sandhill cranes annual winter migration will be disrupted. With 6-8 foot fences surrounding these projects, deer & other wildlife will lose their food sources, habitat, and migration patterns.

10. Solar Power Is Inefficient & Unreliable:

Solar Panels are only 18% efficient & do NOT produce electricity 88% of the time when the sun is not shining @ peak. Fossil fuels & nuclear power must be available as a backup to prevent blackouts.

11. Supporting Solar Energy Is Supporting

Communist China:

Approximately 80% of all solar panels are manufactured in China which strengthens their global position. Most panels are made using forced labor practices.

12. Decommissioning Costs Are Projected To Be

Colossal:

The estimated cost of decommissioning & restoring a 1000 acre solar project is 10 million. Panels are considered hazardous/toxic waste, and there are currently no solar panel recycling facilities in the US.

13. Local Fire Departments Are Unprepared &

Not Equipped For Potential Solar Plant

Fires:

Panel and battery energy storage systems (BESS) fires create toxic gasses and are extremely difficult to control and extinguish.
